Best Beaches in Ao Nang & Krabi
From the easy town beach to the cliff-wrapped bays you reach by longtail — the beaches worth your time.
Ao Nang's beaches are its headline act — soft sand, warm Andaman water and limestone karsts straight out of a postcard. Some are a stroll from town; the most spectacular ones are a short boat ride away. Here are the ones we'd point a friend to.
Ao Nang Beach
The main town beach and social hub — an easy walk from most hotels, lined with the promenade, cafés and longtail boats. Best for sunsets, people-watching and launching island trips rather than serious swimming.
Railay Beach
A cliff-locked peninsula reachable only by boat — about 10–15 minutes by longtail from Ao Nang. Railay West has the soft sand and sunsets; Railay East is the mangrove side and a world-famous rock-climbing spot.
Phra Nang Cave Beach
Often rated one of the most beautiful beaches in Thailand — turquoise water, a dramatic cave and towering cliffs. It's a short walk from Railay, so the two pair perfectly in a single trip.
Nopparat Thara Beach
Just along from Ao Nang, Nopparat Thara is longer, quieter and more local in feel — a good choice for a calmer, less crowded stretch of sand and a long walk at low tide.
The 4 Islands
The classic day trip: Koh Poda, Chicken Island, Tup Island and Phra Nang. Clear water, snorkelling and a sandbar that links islands at low tide. Go early for the calmest sea and fewest boats.
Where to crash after the beach
Salt, sun and a long boat day earn a proper wind-down. The Hub Laidback Hostel is five minutes' walk from Ao Nang Beach — a cannabis-friendly hostel with air-conditioned 4-bed dorms, a social lounge and a licensed weed shop on site. See rooms & dorms, or read our things to do in Ao Nang guide.
