Ao Nang Travel Guide
Where it is, how to get there, when to go and how to get around — the practical basics for Ao Nang, Krabi.
Ao Nang is the gateway to Krabi — a laid-back beach town on Thailand's Andaman coast, framed by limestone cliffs and a short boat ride from some of the country's most famous beaches. This guide covers the practical stuff so you can spend less time planning and more time enjoying it.
Where is Ao Nang?
Ao Nang sits in Krabi Province in southern Thailand, on the Andaman Sea. It's the main tourist base of Krabi — close to the airport, walking distance to the beach, and the launch point for boats to Railay and the islands.
How to get to Ao Nang
The easiest route is to fly into Krabi International Airport, then take a taxi, shuttle or minibus to Ao Nang — usually around 30–45 minutes. Ao Nang is also well connected by road and ferry to Phuket, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta and Krabi Town.
Best time to visit
The dry season (roughly November–April) brings the clearest skies and calmest seas — peak time for beaches and island hopping. The green season (around May–October) is quieter, greener and cheaper, with shorter passing showers rather than all-day rain.
Getting around
The town centre and beachfront are easily walkable. Songthaews (shared pickup trucks) run set routes, longtail boats serve Railay and the islands, and taxis, tuk-tuks and rental scooters cover everything else.
