Things to Do in Ao Nang, Krabi

A local's guide to the best beaches, islands, viewpoints and chilled-out spots — from the team at The Hub Laidback Hostel.

Ao Nang is the easy-going heart of Krabi — a beach town on Thailand's Andaman coast ringed by towering limestone cliffs and turquoise water. It's the perfect base for island-hopping by day and slow evenings by night. Here's how we'd spend the time, straight from the team at The Hub Laidback Hostel.

Go island hopping

The signature Ao Nang experience. Longtail and speedboat trips run from the beach to the famous 4 Islands — Koh Poda, Chicken Island, Tup Island and Phra Nang — and to the quieter Hong Islands. Expect powdery sand, snorkelling and lagoons. Mornings are usually calmer water and fewer crowds.

Visit Railay & Phra Nang Cave Beach

A short longtail ride from Ao Nang Beach drops you at Railay — a cliff-wrapped peninsula reachable only by boat — and the stunning Phra Nang Cave Beach. It's world-class rock climbing, postcard scenery and one of the best sunset spots in Krabi.

Chase a viewpoint or temple

For big views, hike Khao Ngon Nak (Dragon Crest) or climb the steps at the Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Sua) near Krabi Town for a panorama over the limestone landscape. Both are best early, before the midday heat.

Wander Ao Nang Beach & the night market

The beachfront promenade is made for slow evenings — sunset over the sea, then the walking street and night market for food, drinks and browsing. It's the social heart of town and a great way to end any day.
